Samoa women continue national team programme

The Football Federation Samoa (FFS) held their second talent identification fixture last month in Auckland for New Zealand-based players to show their interest in representing Samoa at national level.

The match, which was played against the Saint Kentigern College Girls 1st XI team, followed on from Samoa’s first talent identification games in February this year.

FFS Technical Director Jess Ibrom said despite challenges presented by COVID-19 restrictions in Samoa, he was pleased to activate national team activities.

“This game provided a good benchmark for national staff to see the status of players based here in New Zealand,” Ibrom said.

“It also supports our preparations towards competitions such as the OFC Women’s Nations Cup in July.

“On behalf of FFS, many thanks go out to Saint Kentigern College Director of Football Brian Shelly for providing quality facilities and opposition for this match.”

A men’s fixture was planned against Birkenhead United FC but was postponed due to COVID-19 restrictions.
